Directing & Teaching Work
As a director, Ceci aims to tell stories innovatively and intentionally. She does this through creating a space in which actors feel empowered to make discoveries (and mistakes)! Some of her most used tools are critical kindness, collaboration, and workshopping. She believes the director should lay a foundation that actors and designers can build upon. She does not give actors the answers but rather helps them discover it themselves. In the end, if the cast and crew have grown, and an audience has been affected by the story in some way, she considers that a win.
As a teacher, Ceci uses experiential learning and creative dramatics. Experiential learning allows students to get hands-on experience, which helps with understanding and retention. Instruction is important, but her favorite part of teaching is building meaningful relationships with her students. The priority is that the student grows and if that means modifying a lesson, then she will modify the lesson. Ceci wants to be a mentor, someone they look up to and can come to with questions beyond the content they are learning.
